1. Always choose a theme. Avoid creating a gift basket that is a hodge-podge of assorted and unrelated items. Instead, pick a theme. Every item that you stock your gift basket with should fall very clearly under the chosen theme. For example, a wine and cheese gift basket could contain a bottle of wine and some small samples of cheese.
