Many people make the mistake of jumping into a
home business without a well written plan. They assume making money on the Internet from home is easy and anyone can do it and be rich within the first few weeks. This myth is soon realized after they go spend loads of money on programs that don't work and waste precious hours of time doing tasks that will not benefit their home business. This is why it is absolutely necessary to treat your home business like what it is, a real business and write out a plan.
A home business plan should either be hand written or typed but should be right in front of you at all times. Many times we get side tracked and lose focus of our goals. This plan should be a constant reminder of what we need to do in order to benefit our business on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. It is real easy to lose focus so a written plan would help us keep that focus and remain more efficient.
A well written business plan doesn't have to be the size of a dictionary. In fact, it may be one page long or less. The size of the plan will depend on the structure and how complex your home business is. If you have a very diverse business, your plan may be a lot longer than a business marketing just one product.
You should start at the top with an overall goal or mission you'd like to accomplish. This can be either monetary or production wise. Think long term here. What do you want to get from this?
Next you'd want to include your marketing plan, financial plan, and production plan. All three are equally important to a home business so any order will do. Marketing includes how and where you will advertise your product or products. A financial plan includes setting up a budget and how you will stick to that budget. Your production plan should include all daily and weekly chores. Set a quota and time line of how much production you want to get done and which days you can get them done.
Don't worry so much about writing the perfect home business plan, just write it. This plan is always going to be changing as your home business changes. You will be constantly adding and taking away from your current plan. The plan you write today may not resemble your business plan a year later. Whatever you do, do not underestimate the importance of your personal home business plan. It may make or break your business.
